About My Practice

My name is Stephanie McLeod-Estevez. I am a licensed clinical professional counselor (LCPC) practicing in Portland, Maine. In 2004, I obtained my Masters of Mental Health Counseling and Expressive Arts Therapy from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. In 2009, I opened my private practice. I have almost 20 years of clinical expertise in treating anxiety, depression, trauma, the impact of complex interpersonal relationships, and self worth.

My approach to therapy is heart centered and eclectic. I draw from my experience as a therapist, as a human, and from the training that I have received. As I get to know you, I tailor the experience to meet you where you are at in that moment, while encouraging awareness and understanding of how your past experiences and future hopes influence how you see yourself and how you show up in the world.

I believe that each one of my clients holds the possibility for change. You are the keeper of your story, you understand yourself and your needs the best. However, your life experiences and relationships often shape how well you are able to access your own unique wisdom. When this becomes compromised, you can lose your voice and your connection to yourself. Through our work together, you can reclaim this inherent gift and find your way back to health and happiness. My role is to be with you throughout the process, to be curious about what stands in your way, and to connect you with resources that will enhance your ability to heal. To be successful, you need to be an active participant in the process.

In addition to my private practice, I started Creative Transformations, after I’d finished treatment for an aggressive form of breast cancer. As a cancer patient, I realized that emotional health and wellness of the cancer community was not being adequately addressed. I opened Creative Transformations to provide information, tools, and services to the cancer community.
